En el próximo capítulo del G20
Acabo de ver ese peaso de documental, francés por más señas, en "Documentos TV" y acabo de conocer el caso que detallo a continuación.
El año 2005 fue un momento excepcional en la historia del grupo U2. La felicidad de haber ganado casi 300 millones de dólares se disipó de improviso cuando su pais, Irlanda, derogó la ley que desfiscalizaba el trabajo de los artistas y comenzó a aplicar una nueva política impositiva.El líder del grupo, Bono -que era conocido por su militancia a favor de la anulación de la deuda del Tercer Mundo-, decidió confiar la gestión de los ingresos de U2 a la consultora financiera Promogroup, con sede en un paraíso fiscal de insospechable reputación: Holanda. Promogroup, que tiene en su cartera a los artistas y deportistas más cotizados del mundo, ganó su prestigio por haber asesorado a los Rolling Stones para que sólo pagaran 450 millones de dólares de impuestos en los últimos 20 años, una cifra que representa apenas 1.6 por ciento de sus ingresos.

Su astucia consiste en utilizar las ventajas fiscales que proponen las Antillas Holandesas a los "inversores extranjeros". Unas 20 mil empresas y mil 800 grandes multinacionales -incluyendo algunos íconos como Starbucks, Exxon, Nike y Subway- operan total o parcialmente desde esas cinco islas diminutas ubicadas frente a Venezuela, según John Orr, vocero de la Agencia Holandesa de Inversiones Extranjeras. A pesar de esa intensa actividad, Holanda no figura directamente en la lista de los 47 países o territorios "no cooperativos" en materia fiscal, difundida en París por la OCDE (Organización de Cooperación y Desarrollo Económico).La única mención atañe a sus colonias en el Caribe. Sin embargo, la discreta ayuda a la evasión fiscal que practican las Antillas Holandesas no difiere de las operaciones que realizan los otros paraísos fiscales que existen en el mundo.
Conocidos como Mailbox Companies, Corporate Shells, Tax Havens, las actividades opacas de esos "bajos fondos de las finanzas internacionales" serán uno de los temas prioritarios que analizará la próxima cumbre del G20, convocada para el 2 de abril en Londres. Acusados de complicidad en la evasión y fraude fiscal, blanqueo de dinero mafioso y corrupción, esos centros financieros off shore fueron denunciados como uno de los grandes responsables de la crisis financiera que estalló en julio de 2007 y que en menos de 18 meses llevó al mundo a la peor recesión económica después de la gran depresión de los años 30. Accesoriamente, también se les imputa facilitar las transferencias de fondos que permiten financiar el terrorismo islámico.
